Schooner Toastmasters

#3978. Area 1. Division D. District 45

About Schooner Toastmasters

Schooner Toastmasters was formed in 1979.

The membership of the club includes people from a wide variety of educational, professional, and ethnic backgrounds. Some have been members long enough to achieve advanced designations such as Competent Toastmaster (CTM), Advanced Toastmaster (ATM), and Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM). Others are new Toastmasters working toward their first designation of Competent Communicator (CC).

Many of our members fill Toastmasters roles outside the club, such as area, district, and division governors, and other offices.

About Toastmasters

The first Toastmasters club was established on October 22, 1924, in Santa Ana, California, by Dr. Ralph C. Smedley, who conceived and developed the idea of helping others to speak more effectively. Soon, more clubs were formed, and Toastmasters International was incorporated under California law on December 19, 1932.

Toastmasters International is a non-profit organization governed by a Board of Directors elected by the membership. Toastmasters International's business and services are administered by its World Headquarters, located in Rancho Santa Margarita, California. It employs no paid promoters or instructors. The only salaried employees are the Executive Director and World Headquarters staff, who provide services to the clubs and districts.

The structure of Toastmasters

Toastmasters International has over 12,000 clubs in 106 countries. North America, home to 72% of members, is divided into eight regions, then into districts, and then into areas. Clubs outside North America are grouped into districts. Some clubs don’t belong to any district because of their isolated locations.

The Schooner Toastmasters Club is in Region 7, District 45, Area 1. Region 7 runs down the eastern seaboard of Canada and the United States to Washington, DC. It comprises eight districts, of which District 45 takes in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Maine, Vermont, and New Hampshire. District 45 is divided into sixteen areas.
