"A good orator is pointed and impassioned." - Marcus T. Cicero
Role: Ah Counter
More Roles
The Ah-Counter's function is to keep a tally of words and sounds used as crutches or "pause-fillers," such as ah, um, you know, and other inappropriate interjections which detract from a speaker's message. In addition, the Ah-Counter keeps track of long pauses, stutters, and other verbal habits, unless deemed or said to be part of the speech or used purposefully for effect.
What are the benefits of serving as Ah-Counter?
The role of Ah-Counter is often filled by newer, less experienced club members because it is easy and helps build skills and self-confidence:
- Serving as Ah-Counter helps hone listening skills.
- The role provides two low-stress chances to speak during the meeting.
- You gain experience, and ready yourself to coach others new to the role.
- You provide a valuable service to other members, effectively "giving back" to the club.
