"A good orator is pointed and impassioned." - Marcus T. Cicero
Role: Quizmaster
More Roles
The role of the Quizmaster is to test the audience’s listening skills. The Quizmaster acts as a role model for the audience by exemplifying active listening, and challenges members to actively practice and test their listening skills.
At the meeting:
- Explain the Quizmaster role when you are introduced by the Table Topics Master.
- Listen intently to everything that’s said during the meeting.
- Create five or six simple questions based on what is said or done, or on the content of assignments.
- Pose your questions to the audience near the end of the meeting when the General Evaluator calls on you:
- Thank the General Evaluator and conduct a question and answer session, allowing about 5 to 10 seconds per question.
- Quickly pose each question to the entire audience. Expect rapid answers and keep a running tab of who answers correctly. If no response is given to a question, provide the answer and move on to the next question.
- Thank the audience for their participation and return control of the lectern to the General Evaluator before being seated.
Tips:
- IMPORTANT: If the meeting is running overtime, ask fewer questions.
- Base questions purely on the content of the meeting. The questions should not be trivial, nor should they focus on small details.
- Ask questions about important things that members learned during the evening, e.g., "According to Carl's educational session, what is the most important job of an evaluator?"
- Use your imagination to make the assignment both entertaining and effective.
- Smile and have fun!
